The ITA said the 19-year-old Romanian committed three whereabouts failures in 12 months and plans to challenge the suspension at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Barbosu said on Instagram the case was unrelated to prohibited substances and linked the issue to the challenges of moving to the United States and starting college at Stanford.
The suspension hits the Paris 2024 floor bronze medallist, whose medal was awarded after CAS overturned Jordan Chiles' score increase and the IOC ordered the American to return bronze.
