The incident happened on Saturday at the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, on the par-3 13th hole, where the cameraman, identified as Gary, was not seriously hurt.
Hughes apologised after the shot, which still helped him make par on the hole despite striking Gary in the head before rolling onto the green.
The lucky bounce did little for the Canadian's tournament, as he shot 73 in the third round to fall to six over par and into a tie for 70th.
