Nottinghamshire Police said a 40-year-old remains in custody after a Vauxhall Astra struck five men in Market Place shortly before 01:10 BST on Saturday.
One man suffered life-threatening injuries and four others were hurt after the car was allegedly driven at the group following an altercation, before the driver abandoned the vehicle and left.
Police said counter-terrorism officers were not involved and there was no wider public threat, while cordons stayed in place for most of Saturday and detectives appealed for footage.
