A WSDA grain inspector found and destroyed one on a vessel at the Port of Vancouver on 30 April, and traps have since been set.
Officials say no other hornets were found, but urged residents and visitors to report sightings because the invasive species can devastate honey-bee colonies and spread quickly.
The hornet has reduced hives and honey production in Europe and has spread from Georgia into South Carolina, while Washington declared northern giant hornets eradicated in 2024.
