At Friday night's Department of Biological Sciences ceremony at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, relatives said they were turned away despite arriving about an hour early for the 7:30pm event.
Families said the fire marshal shut entry after the 5,500-seat venue reached capacity, though some shared photos they said showed empty seats inside and criticised the lack of ticketing.
About 45 minutes after the ceremony began, those outside were told to watch a livestream at the student union or on phones; NC State did not answer questions on planning.
