Pope Leo XIV urges Naples Church to confront inequality with closeness

Speaking at Naples Cathedral on Friday, he told priests, religious and laypeople to support families, young people and the poor, and to resist pastoral isolation.
He said ministry must go beyond emotional faith or routine tasks, calling for inner care, fraternity and new communal forms so clergy can face poverty, violence and social fragility.
The visit, marking the first anniversary of his election, also included Mass in Pompeii, meetings with charity workers, and praise for Naples' diocesan synod and a more missionary Church.
