House Republicans urge Trump administration to block Chinese auto and battery manufacturing

In a late-April letter, more than 50 Republicans led by Representative Mike Kelly pressed Treasury, Commerce and the USTR to stop Chinese investment in US auto supply chains.
The push comes as Chinese companies own more than 60 US auto suppliers, while at least 40 vehicle models sold in America contain reportable Chinese components.
Lawmakers have also revived Senate legislation to ban China-made cars and safety parts, as automakers such as Tesla, GM and Ford reduce or review China-linked sourcing.
