Mayor Zohran Mamdani ordered a root-cause review after police said Rhamell Burke, 32, was released about five hours before Ross Falzone was pushed at Chelsea's West 18th Street station.
Mamdani also asked New York state's health department to investigate; officials agreed to go on-site immediately and remain during the review, while Burke was later arrested at Penn Station and charged with murder.
Bellevue's operator said it welcomed the inquiry and expected its care would be found appropriate, in an early test of Mamdani's pledges to overhaul public safety and mental healthcare systems.
