Doctors say about 25% of adults have flat feet, but only around one in 10 develop symptoms needing treatment.
Possible problems include foot and ankle pain, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, and higher arthritis risk in the knees and hips as altered walking mechanics shift weight.
Experts say symptom-free flat feet usually need no treatment, but new pain, limping, gait changes or sudden arch collapse after injury should be checked; orthotics, physical therapy or surgery may help.
