The appointment takes effect on 13 July, bringing the chipmaker's board to 11 members, and Johnson is expected to join the audit committee.
Johnson is a former Goldman Sachs vice chairman, adding finance and philanthropy experience to Nvidia's board, the company said in a statement on Friday.
