Cohutta town council reinstates police department and blocks mayor from disbanding it

At an emergency Friday meeting in the Georgia town of about 930 people, councillors unanimously restored Chief Greg Fowler and about 10 officers after Wednesday's firings.
City attorney Bryan Rayburn said Mayor Ron Shinnick had not followed the town charter; Shinnick left the meeting, and vice-mayor Shane Kornberg presided for the rest.
The council tabled a request for Shinnick's immediate resignation. Shinnick blamed officers' social media posts, while former Sergeant Jeremy May linked the dispute to complaints about the mayor's wife.
