Police say the teen was stopped for turnstile jumping at Brooklyn's Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station, linked to the case through the NYPD Domain Awareness System, and found carrying a scalpel.
Leonides Baez, 39, of Massachusetts, was stabbed on West 43rd Street near the Stephen Sondheim Theatre at about 11:30 p.m. Monday and later died at Bellevue Hospital.
Investigators say the attack followed a verbal dispute involving at least three suspects; earlier reports identified the teen as Jayden Sanchez and said prosecutors also filed assault and robbery charges.
