Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds said Thursday the resignation took effect immediately, while Chief Benefit Officer Steven Herbert was terminated and Elizabeth Hennessey remains acting CEO in Des Moines.
Samorajski and Herbert had been on administrative leave since March 31 and April 1, and officials said the undisclosed investigations do not affect retirement payments.
The state received Samorajski's resignation on May 1 and will launch nationwide searches for a new IPERS chief executive and a replacement benefits officer.
