San Luis Obispo County District Attorney Dan Dow said the Arroyo Grande search involved his office's investigators and Assistant District Attorney Eric Dobroth before a warrant was obtained.
Dow said the District Attorney's Office and Sheriff's Office have kept working since Paul Flores was convicted of murdering Smart, using lawful tools to try to locate her remains.
He said those responsible for Smart's death, and anyone who knows where she is, could still provide answers as authorities continue efforts to bring her home.
