The 2025 deals added Qubitekk’s 118 patents and ID Quantique’s roughly 120 employees and $250m acquisition value, strengthening IonQ’s networking unit in the US and Geneva.
IonQ now combines QKD hardware, networking software and related technologies under one public company, aiming to meet defence and finance customers’ demand for integrated compute, networking and timing suppliers.

In 2025, IonQ shifted its focus from individual quantum computers to leading integrated quantum networking by acquiring ID Quantique and Qubitekk. These acquisitions brought advanced quantum security technologies and the first US commercial quantum network, enabling IonQ to build a scalable quantum internet foundation. By integrating these technologies, IonQ developed photonic interconnects that link quantum processors, targeting major system milestones by 2028 and 2030. The company also acquired SkyWater Technology to secure onshore manufacturing, strengthening its supply chain.
