Flynn won Aberdeen Deeside and North Kincardine, while Gethins took Dundee City East, and both must quit their Commons seats within 49 days under dual-mandate rules.
That will force by-elections in Aberdeen South and Arbroath and Broughty Ferry after the two SNP MPs moved to Holyrood in the Scottish Parliament elections.
Flynn, seen as a possible future SNP leader, said he would champion North Sea oil and gas workers, people facing living-cost pressures and young people seeking hope.
