Downtown DC report shows crime down but jobs and tourism decline

The annual BID report said violent crime has fallen 69% since the 2023 post-pandemic peak, arts, entertainment and live sports attendance rose 9%, and nearly 6,000 jobs were lost.
It linked weaker hotel occupancy, international tourism and visits to monuments and memorials to National Guard mobilisation and the Trump administration's immigration crackdown, while federal employment fell after DOGE cuts.
The BID described downtown as "partly cloudy and partly sunny", saying retail appears to be stabilising in 2025 as openings slightly outpace closures and officials seek more residents and visitors.
