Evanston police said the shutdown near Linden Avenue and Green Bay Road would last several hours, while CTA began accepting Metra tickets on Red, Brown and Purple lines.
Metra said train 337 caused the halt of inbound and outbound service in Wilmette and warned of extensive delays; CBS Chicago reported at least two passengers were treated for minor injuries.
Earlier reports said the vehicle was a semi-truck, and Wilmette crossings in the area carry "No Low Slung Trucks" warning signs.
