Algonquin Power & Utilities first-quarter net income slips

The Canadian utility posted net income of $83.1 million, or 11 cents a share, down from $92.8 million, or 12 cents, a year earlier.
The decline was driven by weaker earnings at Missouri-based Empire District Electric, where slightly unfavourable 2026 weather hurt the Regulated Services Group, whose net earnings fell 2.2%.
Adjusted earnings were 13 cents a share, above analysts' expectations of 11 cents, while Empire serves electric, natural gas and water customers across Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
