Dave Smith, a former Arizona DPS lieutenant, said Tucson’s 60-mile proximity to Nogales made cross-border transport plausible in the Feb. 1 suspected abduction of the 84-year-old in Pima County.
He argued denying possible international transport could have delayed FBI involvement, as Sheriff Chris Nanos and FBI Director Kash Patel have publicly disputed when federal help was sought.
