In an X post, the former National Counterterrorism Center director said the CIA and wider intelligence community also warned Iran would hit US bases and close the Strait of Hormuz if attacked.
Kent said assessments that strikes on Iran's leadership would strengthen hardliners were ignored, and alleged Israel's narrative pushed Washington into the conflict; the White House did not immediately respond.
Kent resigned in March, saying he could not support the war and that Iran posed no imminent threat. Trump has rejected claims Israel persuaded him, citing his long-held opposition to an Iranian bomb.
