Two men, including a British immigration officer, were convicted in London of targeting pro-democracy dissidents in Britain for Hong Kong and ultimately China.
Security Minister Dan Jarvis said the activity infringed UK sovereignty and would never be tolerated, while Beijing called the case a political manipulation and vowed to protect its interests.
Hong Kong's government denied any link to the case. The dispute adds to strained UK-China relations since Beijing's 2019 Hong Kong security crackdown.
