Supermarket prices rise 2.23% in April as fruit and vegetables jump

IELKA said fruit and vegetables rose 11.96%, baby and children’s food 7.43%, cold cuts 7.11% and breakfast items 3.56% in Greece.
Prices increased in 14 of 23 monitored categories, with weather, fuel and transport costs driving gains and raising doubts that profit-margin caps can curb food inflation.
Broader inflation is estimated near 5%, while Eurostat put Greece’s harmonised annual rate at 4.6% and ELSTAT said industrial producer prices rose 8.3% in March.
