Ketchikan Public Utilities said the outage began at 2:22 a.m. on 4 May and service returned at 4:44 p.m. after damage northwest of Prince George, British Columbia.
Engineers contacted downstream provider CityWest in Prince Rupert, and by 6:30 a.m. had learned vandals had cut the cable, knocking out local internet service in the Alaska community.
Acting telecom manager Dan White said KPU worked through Monday to restore connectivity, highlighting Ketchikan's reliance on infrastructure routed through neighbouring British Columbia.
