In Diabetes, the team reported in mice that switching from a high-fat diet to standard chow cut liver fat and weight more than daily Semaglutide after 22 weeks.
Semaglutide improved glucose tolerance more, but reduced lean mass regardless of FGF15, while bile-acid changes were stronger in mice lacking the hormone.
The findings add to concerns over muscle loss with GLP-1 obesity drugs and suggest human FGF19 could become a biomarker to tailor diet, drug and combination treatment.
