The investor, which owns more than 4% of Mattel, said the toymaker’s value is nearing $30 a share and criticised incentives tied to Chief Executive Ynon Kreiz’s pay.
Southeastern said private equity, a rival toy company or a large media group could better unlock Mattel’s intellectual property and long-term value through creative deal structures.
Mattel said its board regularly reviews strategy and shareholder views, while keeping focus on its IP-led entertainment business; shares are down 24% this year and rose nearly 2% after hours.
