Shares closed at $92.43 on Thursday, as the S&P 500 fell 0.38% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.63% in a broad market sell-off.
The decline marked Southern Co.'s fourth straight daily loss, though it fared better than NextEra Energy, Dominion Energy and American Electric Power, which also ended lower.
The stock finished 8.34% below its 52-week high of $100.84 reached on 16 October, while trading volume rose to 6.1 million shares, above its 50-day average of 5.2 million.
