In a Fox interview, her parents and sister said the 18-year-old Loyola freshman was killed in Chicago in March by Jose Medina-Medina, a Venezuelan migrant charged with murder.
They said DHS confirmed he had been released twice despite an ICE detainer, and blamed Chicago's approach to immigration enforcement for a death they argue could have been prevented.
The family also condemned an alderwoman's "wrong place, wrong time" remark, later apologised for, while Medina-Medina has pleaded not guilty to murder and other firearm-related charges.
