Verizon cuts several hundred US workers in cost reduction drive

The layoffs, confirmed on Thursday, hit staff nationwide, with the biggest share at Verizon's Basking Ridge, New Jersey, headquarters and mainly in smaller business units.
The company said the cuts amount to less than 1% of headcount and are unrelated to AI, while affected employees can apply for more than 1,000 open US roles.
The move follows Verizon's 13,000 job cuts in November, and executives have said the company is operating leaner and expects cost reductions to continue beyond 2026.
