A Singapore court sentenced the 35-year-old Bangladeshi construction worker to 13 months and three weeks after he duped migrants over fake in-principle approval applications and jobs.
He pleaded guilty to five cheating charges involving seven victims, with 10 more taken into consideration, after offences in 2023 and 2024 in which he used the money for personal expenses.
No money was recovered, though he repaid S$4,400 to two victims; arrested in February 2025, he could have faced up to 10 years' jail and a fine.

Beyond punishment, what systemic reforms can truly shield migrant workers from the crushing debt caused by job scams?
