In Meredith, owner John Moulton told Hassan his farm employs up to 70 workers and faces diesel above $5 a gallon and fertilizer costs up 80%.
He said uncertainty over fuel, electricity, healthcare, housing and retail demand makes pricing and planting decisions harder, with some costs passed on to consumers and some acreage potentially reduced.
Hassan said tariffs, the war in Iran and White House policy were adding avoidable strain to farms and other small businesses, while local food production remains important for supply chains and affordability.
