University of Oregon adds ICE alerts to campus emergency system

The Eugene university activated the policy on Wednesday, months before a September deadline under Oregon House Bill 4079, after student groups petitioned administrators in April.
Alerts will use the existing university-wide system after verification by campus police, general counsel and safety officials, and will exclude personally identifiable information and routine federal activity such as visa checks.
The move follows reported ICE activity on campus since November 2025 and student warnings of a summer protection gap, as Oregon law now requires public schools and colleges to designate immigration-enforcement notification systems.
