Speaking in Berlin, Johann Wadephul told Bloomberg TV Germany backs US efforts to stop Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon.
The row followed Friedrich Merz's remarks that US negotiators were being humiliated by Iran, after which Donald Trump rebuked him and Washington threatened 25% tariffs on EU vehicles.
Wadephul said Berlin remains in close contact with Washington as EU negotiators in Brussels failed overnight to secure a delayed US trade deal.
