Louisiana lawmakers expand murder bill after mall shooting

Senators amended House Bill 102 after the April 23 Baton Rouge mall attack that killed 17-year-old Martha Odom and wounded at least five others.
The measure would add public-place killings that endanger three or more people to first-degree murder, while covering illegal gun use and killings committed on bail, probation or parole.
It also presumes intent when someone points and fires a gun at another person; because first-degree murder is capital in Louisiana, the bill could widen death penalty exposure if enacted.
