University of Washington removes Aria Fani as Middle East Center director

The change took effect on 27 March, with Jackson School director Daniel Hoffman handling the centre's administration through spring and summer.
University spokesperson Victor Balta said Fani remains an associate professor, while Fani said he expected the move and that his medical leave until September is unrelated.
The removal followed statements in which Fani called Zionism "cancerous" and described the US and Israel as a "planetary threat" while criticising Iran and militarism.
