The Charlotte nonprofit textile manufacturer filed a WARN notice on Monday, with most affected workers machine operators and assemblers facing layoffs from 1 July.
The organisation said the cuts stem from a business downturn after a contract ended, affecting a company that employs and trains blind and visually impaired people.
Founded in Charlotte in 1935, Lions Services is also due to unveil the Charlotte Braille Trail at its North Tryon Street facility on 21 May.
