The crash happened near S. Weir Mitchell Elementary School in Kingsessing on Tuesday after the truck ran a red light and hit an SUV on 55th Street.
Workers said the vehicle had been left unlocked and running at a job site on 62nd Street around 3pm before it was stolen; a crossing guard said he pulled a child from a vehicle.
The school district said no children were on the playground and no students were hurt. Later reports identified the suspect as 18-year-old Robert Littlepage, who was arrested and charged.
