The 30-year-old Massachusetts State Police trooper was moved Wednesday from Massachusetts General Hospital to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner after dying on Route 1 near the Saugus-Lynnfield line.
Authorities said Trainor was responding to reports of a wrong-way driver minutes after his shift was due to end; the other driver also died.
State troopers, firefighters and local police lined Boston streets and saluted, while Governor Maura Healey praised his service. Trainor joined the force in 2023 after working as an Essex County corrections officer.
