At a 6 May general audience in St Peter's Square, he said the Church must back the poor, exploited and victims of violence and war.
Continuing reflections on Vatican II's Lumen Gentium, Leo said the Church serves God's kingdom, not itself, and must reject whatever mortifies life and blocks human development.
