The Philadelphia star was ruled out Wednesday against the New York Knicks after increased soreness from a right hip issue and ankle sprain kept him from shootaround.
Embiid had been listed probable until the NBA's 1 p.m. ET injury report, and sources said he received around-the-clock treatment in an effort to play.
The former MVP has averaged 25.2 points in five playoff games since returning from an April appendectomy, but struggled in Philadelphia's 137-98 Game 1 loss at Madison Square Garden.
