On Mystic Falls Trail near Old Faithful, the Baltimore man said he found a badly mauled 28-year-old, took over a 911 call and stayed until rangers and a helicopter arrived.
Yellowstone officials said two hikers were seriously injured on Monday and may have been attacked by one or more bears; both were flown to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Lerman said he saw two sets of tracks, suggesting a sow with a cub, though the attack remains under investigation. It was Yellowstone's first human-grizzly incident of 2026.
