Builds 26100.8313 and 26200.8313 in the Release Preview channel now keep layout, sorting, grouping and icon-size choices even when folders are opened from other apps.
The update also improves File Explorer launch performance, fixes a white flash in dark mode when opening to This PC, adds a preview-anyway button and supports four new archive formats.
The change addresses a decades-old Windows annoyance that often drove users to registry tweaks or third-party file managers, with wider rollout to regular Windows 11 PCs expected soon.
