KB5083631 is an optional April 2026 preview for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2, raising command-line FAT32 formatting from 32GB to 2TB.
It removes File Explorer white flashes in dark mode, improves explorer.exe shutdown and taskbar reliability, speeds startup apps, and fixes Microsoft Store, Windows Hello, Remote Desktop and color profile issues.
The update targets long-running performance and reliability complaints and is due to roll out more broadly in the mandatory May 12 Patch Tuesday release.
