National security adviser Wi Sung-lac said on Wednesday the assessment was no longer needed after Washington suspended Project Freedom in the Strait of Hormuz.
President Donald Trump had asked Seoul to join after the HMM Namu, operated by a South Korean company, was damaged earlier this week.
