The 53-year-old former US Army special forces soldier was last seen on a trail camera near Dover after his wife called 911 on Friday saying he shot her in the neck.
Sheriff Frankie Gray said Berry, armed with at least one handgun and extra ammunition, allegedly returned home for camouflage gear before fleeing; the woman has since been released from hospital.
Authorities scaled back parts of the search because of weather but are methodically expanding it with state and federal agencies, amid concerns Berry's survival training and possible outside help could prolong the manhunt.
