Johnson and suburban mayors will press legislators in Springfield on Wednesday against cutting the LGDF share to 6.28% from 6.47%, a move they say would cost municipalities about $60 million statewide.
Chicago alone would lose about $12.7 million, while Johnson said a one-percentage-point increase in the fund would bring the city roughly $80 million for services.
The LGDF distributes part of Illinois income tax revenue to municipalities; the Illinois Municipal League says cuts since 2011 have deprived local governments of nearly $13 billion. Lawmakers must pass the fiscal 2027 budget by June's end.
