The launch took place in the Philippines during the Salaknib exercise, two years after the Mid-Range Capability system was flown 8,000 miles from Washington state to Luzon.
It was the first live firing since the Lockheed Martin-built launcher arrived in the country, after earlier drills focused on moving it across rough, hot terrain.
The system has remained in the Philippines as a strategic asset, and its deployment previously drew a rebuke from China.
