Nurse was absent on Tuesday to attend Steve Nurse's funeral in Iowa after his brother died unexpectedly last Wednesday at 62, and is expected back before Game 2.
The leave comes after Philadelphia's 137-98 Game 1 loss to the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, where New York led by as many as 40 points.
The 76ers had just rallied from 3-1 down to beat Boston, while the Knicks have won four straight playoff games by a combined 135 points.
