At Winthrop Elementary School in Melrose, Massachusetts, ambulances took the three injured people to local hospitals after the tree fell just before 3pm Monday.
Police said the tree came from the neighbouring Upham House Museum property and crashed onto a jungle gym around dismissal, with several children witnessing the incident.
Residents reported a brief pickup in wind beforehand; Melrose police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex district attorney are investigating, and the playground remains closed.
