Amazon WorkSpaces lets AI agents operate desktop applications in public preview

The feature launches at no extra cost in 12 AWS regions, including Virginia, Oregon, Frankfurt, Tokyo and Sydney, using managed virtual desktops already deployed by enterprises.
Agents authenticate through IAM, connect via a managed Model Context Protocol endpoint, and can click, type, scroll and capture screenshots with audit trails through CloudTrail and CloudWatch.
Amazon says this avoids API building, app migration and new infrastructure for legacy systems, a major barrier as many organisations still rely on older applications and mainframes for critical workflows.
